Discussion with GU Distinguished Artist in Residence Jason Moran: DC Jazz

As part of the ongoing series of events exploring "American Music," celebrated musician, composer, and artist Jason Moran will discuss the many Washington-born musicians and others who played in the city. Joining Moran will be local artists Connaitre Miller, Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator of Vocal Jazz Studies at Howard University, where she directs the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble "Afro Blue," and jazz composer/pianist/vocalist Mark G. Meadows, named “Artist of the Year” and “Composer of the Year” (Washington City Paper, 2014), who has performed alongside Bobby McFerrin, Kendrick Lamar, Renee Fleming, and Kurt Elling and teaches at Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Moran wrote the foreword to the new book “DC Jazz,” co-edited by Prof. Maurice Jackson who will introduce the program.
