GU Chamber Singers

Prof. Frederick Binkholder, artistic director
 Genius in Miniature

In musical composition, as with the rest of life, genius can reveal itself in the smallest moments and simplest motivic ideas. Great composers can, in one phrase, show their complete mastery of the art. The GU Chamber Singers will perform a concert of these small “miracles” of genius in a concert of unaccompanied works for the chamber ensemble. Translations will be provided.

Program includes the following:
Ego Flos Campi by Jacobus Clemens non Papa (1510-1556); Salva a 8  by Anonymous (Baroque Era); If Ye Love Me by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585); Agnus Dei (from Mass for Four Voices)  by William Byrd (1543-1623); Three Songs  by Philip Glass (b. 1937); Totus Tuus by Henryk Mikolaj Górecki (1933-2010); Dieu! Qu’il la fait bon regarder! by Claude Debussy (1862-1918); The Lamb by John Tavener (1944-2013);
Ubi Caritas by Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986)
Shenandoah by Derric Johnson; and Bogoroditsye Devo by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943).
