Hill Nubian Literacy Workshop
The objective of the workshop is introduce and teach a writing system for Hill Nubian languages using the Old Nubian script. Hill Nubian - also known as Kordofan Nubian is a group of closely related languages spoken in the Nuba Mountains area of Sudan. Although several writing systems have developed for writing a number of these languages using Latin script, this is the first attempt to use Old Nubian script. Old Nubian script is a Greek/Coptic based script that was developed and used during the Christian Era in the Nubian kingdoms of Nobatia, Makuria, and Alodia. It has been suggested by some historians that Hill Nubian was spoken by the people of Alodia.
