invites you to:
Making Italy and Germany Great Again: Mussolini and Hitler
A lecture with:
Dr. Christian Goeschel
Senior Lecturer in Modern European HistoryThe University of Manchester
Dr. Christian Goeschel is a Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at The University of Manchester, having joined the History Department there in 2013. He previously taught at the Australian National University and Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on the interaction between politics, society, and culture in modern Europe, especially, but not exclusively in Germany and Italy. He has worked on state terror, especially on repression in Nazi Germany, but recently his research has moved beyond Germany. He has recently completed a book on the history of what he refers to as the 'entanglement' between Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, which explores the relationship between Europe's first and most significant fascist dictatorships. In his book, he approaches this entangled history through the relationship of Mussolini and Hitler. As part of this project, he has developed a strong interest in the cultural history of diplomacy.
This lecture is supported by the Michael C. Olshausen Lecture Fund.
