Georgetown University New Employee Orientation (NEO): You’re scheduled!

Congratulations and welcome to Georgetown University! As a new employee you will have many opportunities to contribute to the university’s mission of education and research as well as to learn and grow in your own career. 

To get you started with the basics of the University's work life, you have been scheduled for New Employee Orientation on Wednesday, September 6, 2016. This program will be held in the Social Room of the Healey Family Student Center from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. 

This university-wide orientation is coordinated by the Department of  Human Resources for all new staff members. The session is interactive, informative, and designed to help you begin a satisfying work-life experience at Georgetown. Topics include: university resources and services; the culture,  history, and traditions of Georgetown; familyresources; and life and work programs. 
NEO is required for all newly hired administrative employees.

*Please Note: There is a $90 materials and facilitation fee which will be charged directly to your office's cost center. A workshop fee will be incurred for all registrations not canceled at least 48 hours before the workshop.

It is critical that you make certain benefit elections within 60 calendar days of your first day at Georgetown. If you do not, your next opportunity to enroll will be during Open Enrollment (held each fall) and your benefits will not take effect until the next calendar year. We strongly encourage you to attend a Benefits Orientation session prior to making your elections in GMS. Register online using your Georgetown email address at

Self-Identification of Personal Information: 
As a new employee you will be asked to complete a number of tasks in the Georgetown Management System (GMS) as part of your on-boarding process. One such task requests that you self-identify your personal demographic information, such as race, ethnicity, gender, disability, and veteran status. We strongly encourage you to complete this information.  For directions on how to self-identify in GMS, please refer to the GMS On-Boarding Guide. 

As a federal contractor, Georgetown University is subject to governmental recordkeeping and reporting requirements for the administration of civil rights laws and regulations. The university is required to solicit this information which will be kept confidential and may only be used in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws, executive orders, and regulations. Tools Needed in the Georgetown University Workplace: 
This is a unique identifier used for email and other electronic services. You can find your NetID by visiting the Georgetown directory ( and entering your name. 

This is your official university identification card. Once you have an active NetID, visit the GOCard Office in Darnall Hall to obtain your card. The card will allow you access to the university's bus system and library; may be used to regulate access to restricted buildings and offices; and function as a campus debit card. You may also enroll in the new "GOCard Direct Deposit Program” and receive a 1% bonus deposit for every payroll deposit. These funds can be used for purchases on campus. For more information visit 

University Information Services (UIS):
UIS offers a course specifically for new employees to learn about basic computing at Georgetown; accounts necessary to gain network access and read email;  contacts for accounts necessary in your department; and additional classes to help you gain understanding and knowledge of programs that can assist you at work. Courses take place online and are about 2 hours.
