Israeli Passport, Arab Identity: The Story of an Al-Jazeera Journalist
Vera Sajrawi is an Arab-Israeli producer for Al-Jazeera English. She grew up in Nazareth, Israel and later moved to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a Masters in Journalism. Prior to working at Al-Jazeera, Vera was a producer for BBC Arabic where she covered major stories such as the Arab Spring and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Vera's life has been impacted by the Israeli/Palestinian conflict in many ways. Her cousin was the first Arab-Israeli to be killed by a suicide bombing by Hamas. Also, her possession of the Israeli passport has hindered her ability to travel around the Middle East.
Vera will be discussing her work at Arab news agencies, her identity as an Arab-Israeli, and her perspectives on the conflict.
